Professional dispensaries let the practitioner set their own price off the manufacturer's suggested retail price (MSRP), so the store cannot display a single public number the way a regular retail site does.
The account is free, it takes about a minute, and creating one does not obligate you to buy anything. You are simply unlocking the pricing tied to this practitioner's dispensary.
The short reason: pricing is set per practitioner
A professional dispensary is not a normal storefront. Instead of one public price for everyone, each licensed practitioner who runs a dispensary can set pricing off the manufacturer's suggested retail price (MSRP). Because that number is tied to the specific practitioner, the platform shows it only after you have a free account connected to that dispensary. There is no single public price to display, so the site asks you to sign in first.
That is the whole mechanism. It feels like a paywall, but it is really an access step — the same way a members' rate or a wholesale login works elsewhere.
What the free account actually is (and isn't)
- It is free. There is no fee to create it and no fee to keep it.
- It does not obligate you to buy. You can make the account, look at pricing, and close the tab. Nothing is charged and nothing ships unless you place an order yourself.
- It links you to one practitioner's dispensary. That link is what makes the practitioner-specific pricing visible to you.
- It is not a subscription or auto-ship trap. Ongoing orders only happen if you choose to set them up.
If a store asked for payment details just to see prices, that would be a red flag. Asking only for a free account to unlock practitioner pricing is standard for this kind of dispensary.
Why practitioners use a gated dispensary at all
The account step is the visible part of a bigger reason practitioners route people through a professional dispensary instead of a public marketplace: control over where the product actually comes from. That control is hard to prove on an open retail site, and the supplement market has real reasons for concern.
- A JAMA analysis of immune-support supplements bought on an online marketplace found 17 of 30 tested items were mislabeled — the contents did not match the label.
- An analysis of omega-3 fish oil products found roughly 45% were rancid (oxidized past accepted freshness limits), a quality problem you cannot see through the bottle.
- Investigators have documented counterfeit supplements that copied real lot numbers onto fake packaging, so a legitimate-looking label is not proof of a legitimate product.
- A number of reputable brands do not authorize sales on open marketplaces at all, which means marketplace listings for those brands are, by the brand's own policy, not coming through an approved channel.
A gated professional dispensary exists partly to sidestep all of that by keeping the supply path verifiable.
What "verifiable sourcing" means here
The standard a professional dispensary is aiming for is often described as a closed-loop supply chain. In plain terms, that means:
- Direct from the brand — product moves from the manufacturer to the dispensary without passing through third-party resellers where authenticity can be lost.
- Blind third-party testing — independent labs verify identity and quality without knowing which sample is which, so the check is harder to game.
- Climate-controlled, NSF-registered cGMP facilities — storage and handling happen in temperature-managed warehouses that meet Current Good Manufacturing Practice standards, so products are not degraded in transit or storage.
None of this is a health promise. It is a sourcing-and-authenticity promise: that what you receive is genuine, stored correctly, and traceable back to the manufacturer.
How to tell a normal gate from a suspicious one
- Normal: free account, no card required to browse, clear that pricing is practitioner-specific, no obligation to purchase.
- Worth questioning: a demand for payment details just to view prices, auto-enrollment in recurring orders, or no clear disclosure of who the practitioner or provider is.
A well-run dispensary should be upfront that a licensed practitioner stands behind it and that creating an account is only about unlocking pricing — nothing more.
